Dorothy Koland, 85

Warroad - Dorothy E. Koland, 85, died Monday, January 24, 2000 at the Warroad Care Center in Warroad.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad with Rev. Karen Holmberg-Smith officiating. Anna Landby was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Bonnie Nordvall. Interment was in the Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Evelyn Olson was born on June 14, 1914 at Karlstad, the daughter of Ernest and Hilma (Nordin) Olson. She attended school and grew up in Karlstad and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On June 27, 1947 she was united in marriage to Hans Koland at Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Karlstad for several years prior to moving to Warroad. Since Hans' death on July 5, 1959, Dorothy had continued to make her home at Warroad.

She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church and sold Avon products in the community for 40 years. Since December of 1999, she had resided at the Warroad Care Center.

Dorothy is survived by one brother, Wallace (Lucille) of White Bear Lake; one sister, Gladys Pearson of Milwaukee, WI; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
