Herman Knutson, 78

İİİ Thief River Falls - Herman Knutson, 78, died on August 9, 2004 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

  Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 14 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Casket bearers included Nicholi Knutson, Joshua Dahle, Jorde Hemmestvedt, Jeff Dahle, Jamie Sagstuen and Tim Nelson. Honorary casket bearers included all of Hermanís grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Military honors were provided by American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and VFW Post 2793. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

İİİHerman Gutorm Knutson was born on July 2, 1926 in Radium, the son of Arent M. and Louisa B. (Omdahl) Knutson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Radium. He attended grade school and spent his childhood years in Radium. 

İİİHerman entered the United States Army on March 5, 1945.  While serving in World War II, he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.  Herman was Honorably Discharged on December 26, 1946.  After his discharge he worked construction in the Warren area, moving to Thief River Falls in 1955,where he spent 33 years working at Conoco and Thief River Oil before retiring.

İİİHerman was united in marriage to Helen Halvorson of Bagley, on July 23, 1958 in East Grand Forks.  The couple continued to make their home in Thief River Falls.

İİİHe was a member of the Eagles Club, VFW and American Legion of Thief River Falls, MN.

İİİHerman is survived by his wife, Helen of Thief River Falls; children: Donna (Pete) Rummel of East Helena, Mont., Debra Gilbertson and Darla Hemmestvedt, both of Thief River Falls, Deanna (Jeff) Dahle of Holt, and Marlon (Peggy) Knutson of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Fern Nelson of Thief River Falls and Bernice Knutson of Viking; and many nieces and nephews.

İİİHe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Kinton, Miles, Ingvold and Lindahl; and an infant sister, Helen.İİİA00003B2004AG25
