Arthur M. Knutson, 93

Warren - Arthur M. Knutson, 93, died Thursday,

April 30, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Home in Warren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordval was the organist, and Carol Donarski was the soloist. Casketbearers were Bruce and Sharon Russell, Holly Wilson, Marv and Eilene Hutchinson, Robert and Linda Helgeland, Deb and Chris Roller, John Granacki, Phil and Patty Higgason and Keith and Louise Granacki. Burial was in the Holt Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur Myron Knutson was born October 23, 1904 in East Valley township of Marshall county, the daughter of John and Inga (Sormoe) Knutson. He attended the Pleasant Valley school in Mud Lake and was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. He farmed in the Mud Lake area.

On June 20, 1931 he was united in marriage to Selma Carlson in Holt. In May of 1935 Selma died of tuberculosis. Art continued to farm in East Valley township, and after the farm became part of what is now known as Mud Lake Refuge, he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Thief River Falls.

Art was drafted into the armed forces in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1943.

On September 23, 1967 he was married to Olga Troland in Thief River Falls where the couple resided. Art continued to farm until he retired in 1970. In 1991, the couple moved to Warren and later to the Good Samaritan Home. Olga died on March 31, 1996.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, VFW Post of Thief River Falls, Eagles Aerie and the Holt Keenagers Club. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Art is survived by one brother, Harland (Marlys) Knutson of Warroad; one sister-in-law, Tillie Conklin of Thief River Falls; two step daughters, Lillian (Curtis) Anderson of Warren and Delores (Louis) Landreville of Argyle; 12 step grandchildren; 24 step great-grandchildren; 17 step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two wives; his parents; three sisters, Hazel Knutson, Ellennor Knutson and Myrtle Granacki; and one brother, Raymond.
