
Karlstad - Helen Klegstad, 82, died Monday, December 6, 1999 at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center in Karlstad.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 10, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Halverson and Rev. John A. Riveness officiating. Ellen Johnson was the organist, and the soloist was Lois Anderson. Helen's grandchildren were the casketbearers. Interment was in the Karlstad Cemetery with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Ingeborg Rue was born on August 26, 1917 in Norway township of Kittson county near Halma, the daughter of Nels and Ingeborg (Ligaard) Rue. She attended school and grew up near Halma and was baptized and confirmed at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma.
On October 24, 1938 Helen was united in marriage to Leonard Klegstad at Halma. The couple farmed in Pelan township until 1942 when they moved to Milwaukee, WI. In 1946 they returned to their farm where they made their home for many years. After Leonard died on July 21, 1993, Helen continued to live on the farm until August of 1998 when she moved to the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.
She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church and was active in its Ladies Aid. She was also active in the Northland Threshing Bee.
Helen is survived by four sons, Dean (Beverly) of Middle River, Marvin and Owen, both of Karlstad, and Ronald (Lois) of Lake Bronson; two daughters, Alois (Lloyd) Lehse of Fair Haven and Karen Christenson of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Norma Sjovall of Strandquist; one brother, Kenneth (June) of St. Paul; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
