
Thief River Falls - John "Jack" Kjellberg, 58, died Monday, November 16, 1998 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 20 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Curtis Anderson and Reverend Tim Lundeen officiating. Carolyn Trontvet was the organist. Vocalists were Bobbie and Orville Trontvet, Danny Trontvet and Don Wahlbeck.
Casketbearers were Jerry Kjellberg, Kenny Kjellberg, Roger Kjellberg, Glen Schroeder, Paul Schroeder and Randy Twistol. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
John Paul Kjellberg was born on July 3, 1940 in Hallock, the son of Oliver and Mabel (Rice) Kjellberg. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. Jack moved with his family to Grygla. He attended country school and high school in Goodridge.
When Jack was 16 years old he moved with his family to San Diego, CA. He enlisted in the United States Navy on August 7, 1957 and served as a first aid assistant. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1961. On July 4, 1961 he moved to Thief River Falls where he worked at Eddy's Bakery and later for the Gamble Robinson Company.
On October 28, 1961 Jack was united in marriage to Ardelle Oswald at the Mission Covenant Church in Thief River Falls. The couple moved to Numedal township west of Thief River Falls where he farmed and milked dairy cows.
In 1976 Jack and his family moved to Thief River Falls. He purchased the Thief River Falls Livestock Auction and managed it until 1978 when he went to Winger and became a partner in the Winger Livestock Auction. In 1974 he also began working as a hay dealer and has continued working with his son Scott up until the time of his death. Recently Jack enjoyed helping Scott in his business, Westside Country Acres. Jack and Ardelle have lived at their residence in Norden town ship since 1992.
Jack was a member of the Evangelical Free Church. His hobbies included spending time with his family, spoiling and buying gifts for his grandchildren, talking on the phone, tinkering around on the farm and most of all, making the next deal.
Survivors include his wife, Ardelle; one son, Scott Kjellberg of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Stacy (Bill) Wightman of Thief River Falls; three grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Ann Schroeder of Monticello, Janice (Don) Iverson of Hatton, ND, and Patsy Kjellberg of St. Cloud; three brothers, Gerald Kjellberg of Gonvick, Jim (Janice) Kjellberg of New Richmond, WI, and Dwight Kjellberg of Coon Rapids; and his special little buddy, Hunter Haubrich.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
