Orville Kjelgren, 67

Goodridge - Orville Kjelgren, 67, died on Monday, January 19, 1998 at McIntosh Manor in McIntosh after a lengthly battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 11 a.m. at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Special music will be provided by Grace Hammer. Casketbearers will be Richard Johnson, Jim Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Bob Johnson, Mike Gwynn and Michael Gwynn. Burial will be at Ekelund Church Cemetery. The Trail VFW will provide military honors.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Friday at the Green Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Orville Kjelgren was born on October 7, 1930 in Star township of Pennington County, the son of John and Margaret (Omlid) Kjelgren. He was baptized at Valle Lutheran Church in Goodridge. In 1935 he moved with his family to Star township. He was confirmed at Ekelund Lutheran Church and attended District 56 country school near his home through the eighth grade. He went on to attend the Agricultural College in Crookston for three years. Following school he returned to Star township to farm the family farm.

In 1958 he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Iceland. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the area and worked several odd jobs which included construction and working for area farmers. For the last ten years he has worked for Duane Erickson Farms in rural Gully. Orville took care of his mother at home until she died in 1991. After he became ill he was admitted to the Veterans Hospital in October of 1997 and moved to McIntosh Manor on January 8, 1998.

He enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends, especially nieces and nephews.

Orville is survived by one brother, Thorvald (Sharon) of Ottowa, IL; three sisters, Bernice (Leonard) Johnson of Goodridge, Mary Jane (Darrell) Mogen of Mt. Iron and Delores Daniels of Minneapolis; six nephews and seven nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Orley.
