Rev. Elmer King, 84

Drayton, ND - Rev. Elmer C. King, 84, died Saturday, September 13, 1997 at Kittson Memorial Health Care Center in Hallock.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 18 at 2 p.m. at Teien Covenant Church of rural Drayton. Rev. Rick Kalwitter, Rev. Leroy Aufenkamp and Rev. Donna Monteith officiated. Music for the service was provided by Delayne Halcrow, Ruth Gustafson, Lyndon Johnson, Rev. Rick Klawitter, and Ken and Becky Berge. Serving as casketbearers were Scott Dahl, Kris Dahl, Luther Anderson, Ken Berge, Matthew Plevak and Craig Butler. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Adamson-Austin Funeral Home of Drayton was in charge of the arrangements.

Elmer Clifton King was born the son of Joseph W. and Eddice B. (Colwell) King on October 6, 1912 at Edgeley, ND. He moved with his parents to Onamia where he grew up and attended school. Elmer graduated from St. Paul Bible College and attended York College in York, NB.

On June 16, 1936 he was united in marriage to Esther V. Lindmark at Onamia. They lived in Nebraska for a short time before moving to Foley where he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister. He served churches at Foley, Vesta, Langdon, ND, Stephen, Sioux Falls, SD, Renville and Delhi. He retired from the church in Renville and moved to Thief River Falls. He continued to serve as an interim pastor at many churches in the Red River Valley. In 1991, Elmer and Esther moved to Drayton, ND where they attended the Teien Covenant Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert (Eunice) King of Plano, TX; one daughter, Betty (Terry) Dahl of Drayton, ND; a foster-daughter of Mary Dirksen of Newfolden; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Neva Goertz of Abbotsford, BC, Canada and Esther Kelley of Estacada, OR; and two brothers, Ronald King of Chicago, IL and Paul King of Shady Cove, OR.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Durwood.
