
Strandquist - Ivan Kimbrough, 70, Saturday, July 4, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Reverend Erling Huglen and Reverend Doug Norquist officiating. Ellen Johnson was the organist, and Reverend Doug and Shirley Norquist, Yvonne Boen and Vangie Carlson were the vocalists. Casketbearers were Ted Koland, Larry Bothum, Todd Koland, Oscar Nyflot, Curtis Hageland and Stanley Swanson. Military honors were accorded by the Strandquist American Legion Post. Interment was in the Karlstad Cemetery. The Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ivan Leland Kimbrough, the son of Ted G. and Elsie (Holmstrom) Kimbrough, was born on December 27, 1927 at Virginia. He came with his family to Strandquist at the age of two and grew to manhood there. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1945.
Ivan served with the U.S. Army in Japan from January of 1946 until July of 1947. Following discharge, he attended Concordia College in Moorhead for one year and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND for one year. He served as a merchant seaman in the 1950's and 60's.
He began his career in the insurance industry as an auditor and claims representative. Ivan resided in Minneapolis and St. Paul for a number of years and for the last 30 years has made his home in Strandquist.
He was a life-long member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where he was active in church affairs. Also active in Strandquist community affairs, Ivan was currently a volunteer for Marshall County Social Services. Twice he won the Volunteer of the Year award.
Ivan is survived by one sister, Una Mae (Roger) Koland of Bloomington; two nephews; two aunts; and many cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1969 and his mother this past December.
