
Strandquist - Elsie Kimbrough, 93, died Saturday, December 6, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, December 10 at 10 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Pastor Doug Norquist officiating. Ellen Johnson will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Pastor Doug and Shirley Norquist, Yvonne Boen and Vangie Carlson. Casketbearers will be Ted Koland, Todd Koland, Curtis Hageland, Larry Bothum, Ryan Bothum and Aaron Peterson. Interment will be in Karlstad Cemetery. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad is in charge of the arrangements.
Elsie Emelia Holmstrom was born July 1, 1904 in Wright township of Marshall County, the daughter of Carl and Hulda (Lofgren) Holmstrom. She grew to womanhood in the Strandquist community and attended the former Oak Ridge School near her home. Elsie was baptized at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist.
She was united in marriage to Ted G. Kimbrough on June 3, 1926 in Warren. The couple resided in Warren for a short time before moving to Virginia and then to Strandquist in 1929. Elsie was a long-time member of Bethesda Lutheran Church of Strandquist. She was active in church affairs and was also a member of the Strandquist Senior Citizens group. She continued to make her home in Strandquist after Ted passed away on June 17, 1969.
Elsie is survived by one son, Ivan of Strandquist; one daughter, Una Mae (Roger) Koland of Bloomington; two grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Herman; and one sister, Selma.
