
Thief River Falls - Roy "Buzz" Kendall, 77, of Thief River Falls died Tuesday, July 8, 1997 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 11 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Reverend Gene Broughton officiating. Lucille Onstad was the organist, and Dale Jackson was the soloist. Pallbearers were Dick Ness, Ritchie Ness, Ed Schubert and Steve Thompson. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Roy Denver Kendall was born on December 20, 1919 near Height of Land Lake the son of Roy P. and Helen (Gromley) Kendall. He attended school and grew to adulthood in the Detroit Lakes area. Roy served in the United States Army during World War II. In 1951, Roy purchased the Pure Oil Company in Park Rapids. He owned and operated Kendall Bulk Oil Company and the Kendall Union 76 Gas Station and a fleet of school buses until his retirement in 198l. In 1990, he moved to Karlstad. Roy was united in marriage to Elaine Loberg on December 20, 1990 at Warren. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls.
He was a member of Union Oil Jobber, the CCC's, Lion's Club, Park Rapid's Chamber of Commerce, Eagle's Club and the American Legion, all of Park Rapids.
Roy is survived by his wife, Elaine of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Sandy Kendall of Park Rapids; one son, Scott Kendall of Stillwater; two step-daughters, Sandy (Doug) Clark of Karlstad and Peggy Loberg of Thief RIver Falls; three step-grandchildren; one brother, Pal (Marlene) of Richmond, CA; three sisters, Pearl Schiller of Richmond, CA, Edith Clark of Salt Lake City, UT and Margie Janoushek of Mountain Home, ID; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet; his parents; and five brothers and sisters.
