
Mentor - Richard Kelly, 71, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at his home in Mentor.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 1999 at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor. Interment was in the English Cemetery in Mentor. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home of Crookston was in charge of the arrangements.
Richard Gorden Kelly was born on August 6, 1927 at Valley City, ND, the son of Richard C. and Alice (Nelson) Kelly. He attended school in Rogers, ND. Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 until 1946 and returned to the area after his honorable discharge.
On January 27, 1950 he was united in marriage to Shirlee Mae Edland at Fargo, ND. Richard was a heavy equipment operator who worked on numerous projects including the Garrison Dam, North Dakota missile sites and other construction jobs throughout the state. In 1960 the family moved to Maple Lake near Mentor where the couple owned and operated Kelly's Oak Cove until 1986. Richard also worked at the Solar Gas Plant in Mentor and at American Crystal Sugar Company, retiring in 1974. Shirley Mae died on September 23, 1996.
Richard enjoyed animals, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Mentor.
Richard is survived by four daughters, Kallene (Dan) Morris of Jordan, Dorothy (Darryl) Griffin of Moorhead, Susan Lemke of Bismarck, ND, and Beth (Keith) Poissant of Thief River Falls; two sons, Mike (Karen) Kelly of Bemidji and Curtis (Gwen) Kelly of Jordan; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother, Ronald. A00003B1999MR10
