Leo Kalinoski, 81

Winger - Leo Kalinoski, 81, died Wednesday, December 16, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 18 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen with Father Rick Lambert officiating. Mardelle Schoenborn was the organist, and Della Meisinger was the cantor. Casketbearers were Leo's grandchildren, Scott Hanson, Tim Hanson, Vanessa Holzheu, Bryan Kalinoski, Paul Kalinoski and Andy Kalinoski. Interment was in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Bejou.

Leo Kalinoski was born on April 3, 1917 in Greenbush, the son of Nick and Marcy (Brozocowski) Kalinoski. He graduated from Greenbush High School in 1935.

On November 23, 1943 he was united in marriage to Marcy Mrozek in Leo. They made their home and farmed near Red Lake Falls until 1971. They also operated M & L Chicken House near Terrebonne.

In 1971 he purchased the Winger liquor store, and the couple moved to Winger in 1972. He also owned the Lengby liquor store from the mid-1970's through the late 1970's. The M & L Liquor Store in Winger was sold in the early 1980's. Over the years Leo also raised cattle on a hobby farm near Lengby, was caretaker of an apartment building and did lawn mowing, snow removal and tree trimming in the Winger area. He had been the mayor of Winger since 1990 and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen.

Leo is survived by his wife, Marcy; two sons, Van (Andria "Sue") of Dent and Gary of Grand Forks, ND; one daughter, Paulette (Patrick) Hanson of Red Lake Falls; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, August (Joan) of Milwaukee, WI, Victor (Lila) of Thief River Falls and Clem (Helen) of Greenbush; and one sister, Joan (Victor) Soller of Albert Lea.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Andrew, John and Eddie; and one sister, Angie Ruebush.
