Arthur Joppru, 86-

Thief River Falls - Arthur Joppru, 86, died Sunday, October 5, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 10 at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour's Free Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev-erend Terry Olson officiating. Music was provided by organist Wanda Vigness. Duets were sung by Marville and Virgil Hjelle. Casket-bearers were Bob Nelson, Andy Joppru, Don Joppru, Phil Grothe, Irvin Schmitke and Gordon Johnson. Honorary casketbearers were Kimberly Swenson, J.J. Joppru, Jason Brandt, Bennie Joppru, Billy Rollins, Chris Joppru and Erik Rollins. Burial was at Satesdal Cemetery in Excel township of Marshall County.

Arthur Joppru was born April 21, 1911 in Thief River Falls to Andrew and Tillie (Bergland) Joppru. He was baptized and confirmed at the Satesdal Lutheran Church. Art attended school and grew to adulthood in Thief River Falls. He was in the United States Army in 1942 during World War II.

Art was united in marriage to Evelyn Dahl on October 26, 1946. The couple continued to live in Thief River Falls. Arthur worked for the Soo Line Railroad from May of 1948 to November of 1976. In 1956 the couple moved to Silverton township. In 1995 he sold his farm and moved to Thief River Falls where he resided until his death.

He was a long-time member of Our Saviour's Free Lutheran Church, where he was a past deacon and trustee. He was also active with the Redby Mission, Lutheran Lay-men and Hauge Federation.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Arlene Joppru of Pittsfield, MA; Shirley Joppru of Bozeman, MT and Lou Rollins of Hershey, PA; one son, Sheldon (Kay) of Minnetonka; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Richard (Kay) Joppru of Frederick, MD; Sander (Vi) Joppru of Thief River Falls and Orville (Marian) Joppru of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and five brothers.
