Bert Jones, 90

Thief River Falls - Bert Jones, 90, died Friday, June 30, 2000 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 5) at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Rev. Sandra Hollands officiating. Gloria Sistad will be the organist, and the soloist will be Kelsey Bruso. Inter-ment will be in Moose River Cemetery in Rollis township of Marshall county.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Bert Jones was born on March 1, 1910 in Browerville, the son of Horace and Ida (Anderson) Jones. He grew up and attended school in Long Prairie. He attended the Baptist Church in Long Prairie and the Reynolds Baptist Church in Gutches Grove. Bert was employed by the Hansmann Plow Factory in Long Prairie, a company that shipped plows to Russia.

On June 30, 1931, he was united in marriage to Pearl Watters at the Presbyterian Church in Long Prairie. He worked with his dad at the Standard Oil Station until 1939. In 1940, Bert bought the Pure Oil Station in Long Prairie which he owned and operated until 1953. He also carried mail for the U.S. Postal Service. He worked for Griep Motors and Neumann Motors in Long Prairie until his retirement in 1978. In 1979, Bert and Pearl moved to Gatzke. Pearl died on January 1, 2000.

Bert enjoyed trains, cars, fishing, pets, good food and especially spending time with his family.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Alan) Severts of Gatzke; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Don (Adaline) Jones of Long Prairie; and one niece.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife; parents, and one brother, Howard. A00003B2000JL05
