Orris Johnson, 82

Phoenix, AZ - Orris C. "O.C." Johnson, 82, formerly of Holt and Thief River Falls, died Sunday, June 20, 1999 at his home in Phoenix, AZ.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Phoenix.

Orris C. Johnson was born on May 31, 1917 near Holt, the son of Ole B. and Cora (Anderson) Johnson. He was baptized on August 9, 1917 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Reverend L.M. Redal on July 2, 1933.

On November 1, 1941 Orris was united in marriage to Marian A. Olson of Holt. The couple had two children and was married until Marian died of cancer on December 13, 1976.

Orris and his brother, Murnett, served in the 25th Signal Corps of the 25th Infantry Division in the South Pacific for three years. For nine years after the war, he worked for the Soo Line Railroad out of Thief River Falls.

In July of 1956, Orris moved his family to Phoenix, AZ, and he worked for the Southern Pacific until June of 1980, retiring as a conductor.

He married Julie Bolton in 1977, and they lived in Hot Springs, AR until her death in 1993. Orris then returned to Arizona, living first in Prescott for six months and then in Phoenix.

Survivors include one son, Conrad N. Johnson; one daughter, Suzanne E. Johnstonbaugh; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Orris was preceded in death by his wives; his parents; three brothers, George, Murnett and Myron; and six sisters, Thora, Inga, Thea, Julia, Olga and Myrtle in infancy.
