
Crookston - Katherine Johnson, 91, died Thursday, September 18, 1997 at the Riverview Hospital in Crookston.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 22, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Interment was at the Bardo Cemetery of rural Crookston.
Katherine Elizabeth Johnson was born on August 9, 1906 at Gardner, IL, the youngest child of Oscar and Emma (Dalburg) Johnson. She began her schooling in Gardner, and at the age of seven moved with her family to rural Warren where she continued to attend school. Katherine remained on the family farm helping her parents with housekeeping duties and then caring for her father after the death of her mother.
In 1939, Katherine became the housekeeper for the Malmberg farm at rural Fisher. In 1970, Henning, the last surviving brother of the Malmberg family moved into Crookston. Katherine, who had become like part of the family, accompanied him to look after his home. When her health failed, Katherine entered the Riverview Nursing Home and after a year moved to the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in June of 1993.
Katherine enjoyed gardening, crocheting and knitting, and cooking and baking for family and friends.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and special friends.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank, Herb and Vernie; and five sisters, Florence, Lena, Medora, Ethel and Elma.
