John Korsey Johnson, 85

Fargo, ND - John Korsey Johnson, 85, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore, ND. Interment was in Bellevue Cemetery in Larimore.

John Korsey Johnson was born on May 1, 1913 in Milnor, ND where he grew up and attended school. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps as a cook in Larimore, ND.

On May 10, 1936 he was united in marriage to Solveig Tvedt in Larimore. The couple moved to Grand Forks, ND where he worked as a cook in a cafe. They later moved to Thief River Falls where he owned and operated Johnnie's Cafe for 18 years.

He 1943 he was inducted into the U.S. Army, and he served as a cook during World War II, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He received his military discharge in 1946.

In 1956 the couple moved to Medford, OR where they opened a restaurant. They returned to Larimore in 1962 and moved to Grand Forks a short time later, opening a coffee shop. They retired in 1969 and moved to Fargo, ND where John was later the managing chef in the kitchen at The Bowler for 10 years.

John is survived by his wife; and one sister, Ella (Gilman) Peterson of Fargo, ND. A00003B1999AR21
