
Thief River Falls - John "Emil" Johnson, 95, died Monday, April 19, 1999 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 23 at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Reverend John Wollenzien officiating. Music was provided by Grace Hammer. Casketbearers were Orville Hanson, Dwight Tangquist, Art Buringrud, Ernie Thune, Elwood Tieman and Wallace Tieman. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
John Emil Johnson was born on March 22, 1904 in Rocksbury township of Pennington county, the son of John and Elsie (Nelson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith and attended Hiawatha school in Rocksbury township. Following school, he attended and graduated from Dakota Business College in 1930. He worked at Anton Hall's gas station for some time and was then employed as a bookkeeper for Ole's Northern Supply for 20 years, retiring in 1959. From 1962 to 1966 John lived in Tuscon, AZ where he worked as a gardener. In 1967 he returned to Thief River Falls where he lived and worked on the family farm and wintered in McAllen, TX.
John is survived by two brothers, Elmer Johnson of Thief River Falls and Art Johnson of Olano, TX; one sister, Clara Nelson of Kalispell, MT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry in 1978; and two sisters, Emma at one year of age and Anne Wherry in 1964.
