
Badger - Helen O. Johnson, 93, died Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at the Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Badger with Rev. Alan Arneson and Rev. Dan Knock officiating. Special music was provided by Gladys Paulson, Orelle Vatnsdal, Ernie Teie, Oniel Foster and Darlene Reed.
Casketbearers were Jon Johnson, Buddy Magnusson, Vernon Reichelt, George Foster, Harvey Tauer, Don Thompson, Ivan Hurtt and Jim Olson. Among the friends who were honorary casketbearers were Cordie and Stella Johnson. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Duxby. The Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Helen O. Foster was born on October 3, 1906 near Streeter, ND, the daughter of Hamlet R. and Helene (Helgeson) Foster. In 1913 she moved with her family to Duxby where she attended school, graduating from the eighth grade in 1921.
On December 12, 1929 she married Elmer Johnson. The couple lived in Duxby until 1952 when they moved to Badger where Helen worked at Johnson's Department Store and the Badger Produce Station. Elmer died on June 21, 1987. For the past four years, Helen had been a resident of the Greenbush Nursing Home.
She was an active member of Our Redeemer's Ladies Aid and the Badger Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, embroidering and fishing in the Roseau River.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Ruth (Robert) Graff of Greenbush; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Earl; two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Foster; and two sisters, Lilly Haaland and Margie Tauer.
