Gay Johnson, 72

Thief River Falls - Gay Johnson, 72, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998 at her home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Special music was provided by Phyllis Dalager, organist, and Solveig Swenson, soloist. Casketbearers were Brad Berglund, Doug Harbott, Ray Johnson, David Magnuson, Wes Sandsmark and Jerry Southard. Burial was in Rindal Cemetery in New Solum township of Marshall county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gay Homme was born on February 22, 1926 in Hamre township of Beltrami county, the daughter of Bjorgo and Anna-Rygnestad (Torjuson) Homme. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Gay attended school near Grygla.

On May 10, 1958 she was united in marriage to Orville Johnson. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Orville died on January 23, 1983.

For a number of years, Gay worked at Northwestern Hospital. She then worked at Arctic Enterprises, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed gardening and doing things for her family and friends.

Gay is survived by one daughter, Maureen (Jay) Kayser of Thief River Falls; one granddaughter; two sisters, Margaret (Elmer) Berglund of Truth or Consequences, NM and Thonia Stanley of Missoula, MT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; her parents; two brothers, Torjus and Knute; and two sisters, Thora Harbott and Ingeborg Magnuson.
