Carl E. Johnson, 86, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at Karlstad Health
Care Center in Karlstad.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Leroy Flickinger officiating. Eunice Waterworth was the soloist. Casketbearers were Howard Johnson, Milford Rokke, Hilton Hjelle, Harvey Skyberg, Wyman Hjelle, Maynard Nelson, Romain Nelson and Leslie Folden. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at Fort Snelling.
Carl Elbert Johnson was born on March 26, 1914 in West Valley township of Marshall county, the son of John L. and Anna (Hjelle) Johnson. He attended West Valley Township School and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. For many years, Carl stayed home and helped on the farm and worked as an area laborer, helping farmers during the harvest season. He then entered the U.S. Army, serving as a military police during World War II. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
On January 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Deloris Sjedin in Seattle, Wash. During the 1960s, Carl owned and operated a saw sharpening business in Seattle. In the late 1960s, the couple moved to Newfolden where they had since resided, and Carl owned a scrap iron business. For the past few years, they had resided at Senior Housing at Newfolden.
Carl is survived by his wife, Deloris; two sisters, Alyce Hanson of Cooper Landing, Alaska and Dorinda Tangen of Redwood Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Melvida Hamberg and Ellen Hjelle; and one brother, Elmer O. Johnson. A00003B2000JN21
