- Alpha Johnson, 86, formerly of Grygla, died Saturday, September
12, 1998 at her daughter's home in Bloomington.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 15 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Reverend Roberta Johnson officiating. Special music was provided by Joy Nordby. Casketbearers were Allan Black, Ryan Black, Travis Black, Duane Lian, Richard Lian and Allan Morken. Burial was in St. Petri Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Alpha Margaret Morken was born on July 12, 1912 in Valley township of Marshall county to Andrew Olaus and Bergine (Bergseng) Morken. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Petri Lutheran Church, rural Grygla, and attended rural school in Valley township.
Alpha worked for some years on the family farm before her marriage to Erwin Johnson on February 28, 1947 at Grygla. The couple farmed in the Grygla area until 1982 when they moved into Grygla. For several years, Alpha worked at Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls. In 1994, the couple moved to Bloomington to spend time at the home of their daughter. Erwin died on September 20, 1996.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's circles. She was also a member of the Lullawhile Homemakers Club for over 50 years.
Alpha is survived by one daughter, Beverly Carol Johnson of Bloomington; one brother, Allard (Margaret) Morken of Grygla; four nieces; one nephew; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Arthur in infancy, Stanley and Milton Morken; and two sisters, Thelma and Edna in childhood.
