Gustine, CA - Leah A. Jewett, 95, formerly of Brooks, died Friday, February 6, 1998 at a hospital in Modesto, CA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks with Father Dennis Wieland officiating. All of Leah's nephews will serve as casketbearers.
Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Brooks.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Leah Ann Mercil was born December 13, 1902 at Brooks, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mercil. She was raised in Brooks and attended school there. She moved to Gustine, CA where she resided for the past 29 years. Leah owned and operated a dry cleaners.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks and also the Catholic Daughters.
Leah is survived by one daughter, Isabelle Borbeck of Gustine, CA; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Roseanna Gagner of Red Lake Falls and Mary Louise Fournier of Crookston; and two brothers, Wilfred Mercil of Colorado Springs, CO and Ralph Mercil of St. Paul.
