
Thief River Falls - Ruth Jacobson, 91, died Monday, February 9, 1998 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 14 at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and Judith Lawrence provided vocal music. Casketbearers were Harry Sahlberg, Myron Sahlberg, Ervin Strandquist and Paul Tangquist. Burial was at Viking Cemetery in Viking. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Ruth Esther Sahlberg was born on November 1, 1906 in Marsh Grove township of Marshall County to Adam and Hulda (Klingberg) Sahlberg. She attended Green Valley Country School near Viking and was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Marsh Grove township where she grew to adulthood.
She worked at the Warren Hotel in Warren for a short time. Ruth worked for many years for the Soo Line Railroad as a cook for the bridge maintenance crew, and this is where she met her husband Werner Jacobson. They were married on June 6, 1936 at Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Thief River Falls. Following Werner's retirement, Ruth worked at Oakland Park Nursing Home. She entered the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in September of 1993 and has since resided there.
She enjoyed flowers, cooking, crocheting, fishing, traveling and visiting with family and friends.
Ruth is survived by two sisters, Anna Mount of Holden, MO and Edith Alex of Townsend, MT; two brothers, Hilmer Sahlberg of Helena, MT and Harry (Eunice) Sahlberg of Winthrop; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Carrie, Agda and Hulda; and two brothers, Oscar and August.
