Clara Jacobs, 87

Lanham, MD - Clara Jacobs, 87, died Wednesday October 14, 1998 in Lanham, MD.

Clara Carriere was born in Chisholm on April 20, 1911. She soon moved to Buhl where she lived until she was 16 years old. She then moved to Middle River where she graduated from high school. She went on to graduate from teacher's college in Bemidji. Later, Clara earned her BS and MA degrees in education from the University of Maryland.

In January of 1941 Clara was called to worked for the federal government. It was there she met her husband, Sam Jacobs, who soon left for service in the U.S. Army. Clara moved to Greenbelt, MD in 1946.

Following the war, she taught in Prince George's county for 29 years. For 20 of those years, Clara taught English, geography and social studies at Greenbelt Junior High School.

Clara retired and did some world traveling after her husband died. She spent 17 winters in Daytona, FL. She also played the organ at the 12:30 Mass at St. Hughs for 23 years.

Survivors include her brothers, Gerald of Middle River and Robert of Foley, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Raymond; and one sister, Gladys.
