Glennie Iverson, 79

Thief River Falls - Glennie Iverson, 79, died on Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at his home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 2 at 2 p.m. at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist, and Diane Johnson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Glennie's nieces and nephews. Burial was in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Glennie Johannes Iverson was born on October 4, 1919 in Star township, the son of Gust A. and Jennie (Bammerud) Iverson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended school at Clovernook rural school in Star township. He graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1937.

Glennie worked as a buttermaker in River Valley Creamery before entering the U.S. Army on July 15, 1942. He served in Tunisia, Sicily, Po Valley, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and North Appenines as a medic. He received the EAME Theater ribbon with six Bronze Stars.

Following his discharge on October 30, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, Glennie returned to Minnesota and worked on the Iron Range near Hibbing. In 1948, he returned to the family farm near Star township and farmed there for many years. He also worked as a fur-taker during the winter months. In 1988, he retired from farming and moved into Thief River Falls.

Glennie enjoyed playing the violin and was in the school band at Crookston. He also enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing and other sports and sheered sheep.

Survivors include three sisters, Anna Kriel of Thief River Falls, Geneva Sparby of Bloomington, and Ruth (Donald) Mosbeck of Red Lake Falls; two brothers, Alfred (Clenora) and Vernon (Clara), both of Goodridge; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law; one nephew; one niece; and special friend, Frances Kezar.
