Warren - Ola Islandsrud, 92, died Saturday, December 11, 1999 at North Valley Health Center in Warren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 16 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren. Military rites were accorded by Warren American Legion Post 27. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Warren with the Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Ola Islandsrud was born on November 16, 1907 in Nes Hallingdau, Norway, the son of Herbrand and Margit Islandsrud. He emigrated to the United States when he was 16 and lived in Edinburg, ND before moving to Newfolden where he purchased land and farmed.
He served in the U.S. Army from April 3, 1943 until November 11, 1945, serving in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. After being discharged Ola returned to Newfolden. In the late 1940s he bought land north of Warren where he made his home and farmed. On April 23, 1996 he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Ola built and manufactured much of the machinery that he used on his farm, including mowers, cultivators and grain bins. He also patented many different machines, including a table saw. On his land in Newfolden he had a saw mill that he used to make all of his lumber. He enjoyed playing the organ and violin.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Ola is survived by a niece in Norway and several cousins.
