
Duluth - Wendell "Smokey" Inman, 74, formerly of Holt, died Friday, January 1, 1999 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5 at Bell Brothers Chapel. Burial was in Oneota Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth VFW Combined Honor Guard. Bell Brothers Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.
Wendell Inman was born on October 27, 1924 in Kennedy, the son of Howard and Nellie (Feeley) Inman.
Wendell served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 15th Infantry in Germany. He received the Purple Heart commendation for wounds he received in action.
On June 27, 1948 he married his wife, Viola, at Roseau.
Since 1956 he was a resident of Duluth and Proctor. He worked for the former Interlake Iron Co. and Elliott Packing Co. He was a bartender for Proctor Municipal Liquor for over 20 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of Proctor Moose Lodge 1302 and a former member of Forbes United Methodist Church in Proctor and the Proctor VFW Post. He formerly served as a Proctor Little League coach. Smokey enjoyed baseball and camping.
Smokey is survived by his wife, Viola; one daughter, Julie (Dennis) Anderson of Duluth; six sons, Jerry (Cathy) Inman of Superior, WI, Terry (Carolyn) Inman of Proctor, Robbie Inman of Cambridge, Steven (Debbie) Inman of Hermantown, and Jim and Darrell Inman, both of Duluth; 26 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Maijala of Tempe, AZ.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dean W. and Loren A. "Smokey" Inman; his parents; one sister, Margaret Christenson; and two brothers, Alonzo and Donald D. Inman.
