Gordon Hunt, 88

Thief River Falls - Gordon Hunt, 88, died Thursday, July 23, 1998 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 27 at Green Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist, and Jan Nordin was the soloist. Casketbearers were Jeff Hunt, Brian Hunt, Terry Hunt, Gordon Thomas, Shawn Thomas and Jay Thomas. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Gordon Stark Hunt was born on June 16, 1910 in Livermore, IA, the son of Seymour and Gertie (Stark) Hunt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. He attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from high school from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.

Gordon worked on a ranch in Montana for a time before moving back to the Thief River Falls area. He was united in marriage to Johanna Christiansen in February of 1934 in Thief River Falls. The couple farmed in Norden township. Gordon resided at the farm with his wife until the time of his death.

Gordon was a former member of the North Star School Board and on the Pennington County Fair Board. In 1970, Gordon and Johanna received the Valley Farmer and Homemaker Award.

His interests included horses, rodeos, reading, Hereford cattle and farming. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Johanna; one son, Jerry (special friend Velma Taggart) of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Audrey (David) Thomas of New Richmond, WI and Shirley Borgie of Oak Creek, WI; one sister, Marian Williams of Thief River Falls; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great granddaughter.
