
Thief River Falls - Lloyd Howick, 83, of Thief River Falls died Tuesday, July 1, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordvall was th organist, and special music was provided by Rick and Sally Erickson. Casketbearers were Floyd Hallan, Ray Kuznia, Joel Miller, Ray Johnson, Joey Nelson and Scott Olson. Lloyd's friends were honorary casketbearers. Burial was in Park Ridge Cemetary, Norden township. Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lloyd Clifford Howick was born April 25, 1914 in Thief River Falls the son of Iver and Sophie (Hitterdahl) Howick. He was baptized at Silverton Lutheran Church and was later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended City View School in Norden township and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. On November 23, 1944, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dahlen in Thief River Falls. The couple resided on the family farm which was homesteaded by Lloyd's grandfather, Lars Hitterdahl, in l881. The farm is located in Norden township. Lloyd was also an active builder for more than 40 years.
Lloyd was active in civic affairs. He was the Norden twonship supervisor for many years and was one of the founders of the Pennington County Milk Producer's Assn. Lloyd was a member of the school board for 12 years and served as chairman for many of those years. During his tenure, the community built the vocational school, Washington and Mark Twain Elementary Schools and Franklin Middle School. Lloyd was also instrumental in the selection of Thief River Falls as the location of Northland Community College. He was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Elks Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, story telling and reading. He was a conservationist and devoted family man.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; one daughter, Sara (James) Blix of Thief River Falls; two sons, Bruce (Claudette) of Grafton, ND and Fredric of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Gudren (Orvis) Olson and Helen (Roger) Roy, all of Detroit Lakes; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Morris; one nephew and one niece.
