
Goodridge - Obert Hovet, 85, died Saturday, October 9, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 14 at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer will be the organist and soloist. Casketbearers will be Roger Hovet, Lowell Anderson, Kelly Dahlen, Leonard Johnson, Mark Rindahl and Jon Hovet. Burial will be in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington county.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church. The Green Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Obert Bernard Hovet was born on May 15, 1914 in Star township of Pennington county, the son of Tollof and Bertina (Sollie) Hovet. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Ekelund church and attended country school through the eighth grade at Clovernook School in District 14 and ninth and tenth grades at Goodridge School. Following school he stayed and worked on the family farm.
In 1939 and 1940 Obert lived in Havre, MT where he worked on a ranch. He also worked on the railroad before returning to the family farm when his brothers left to serve in the United States Army during World War II.
On October 24, 1950 Obert was united in marriage to Katheryn Stone at Oklee. The couple made their home, milking cows and farming, on the family farm in Star township. Obert resided there until February of 1999 when he moved to the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center.
Obert was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church where he served on the church board. He also served as the treasurer of the Star township board.
He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing accordion, watching television, reading and learning about local history.
Obert is survived by his wife, Katheryn of Goodridge; two sons, Kenneth (Vicki) Hovet of Long Prairie and Dennis Hovet of Goodridge; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Hovet of Red Lake Falls; several in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Thelma and Alice (Lisa); and four brothers, John, George, Henry and Melvin. A00003B1999OT13
