Ernest Hogenson, 88

Thief River Falls - Ernest Hogenson, 88, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend John Wollenzien officiating. Marilyn Wigness was the organist, and LeRoy Aasland was soloist. Casketbearers were Michael Hogenson, Mark Hogenson, Myles Hogenson, Marty Hogenson, Murray Hogenson and Raymond Benson. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Ernest Henry Hogenson was born on December 21, 1909 at Ulen, the son of Edward and Anna (Klemetson) Hogenson. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and attended school in Ulen. In 1923 he moved with his family to Thief River Falls where he completed his education. Ernest was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1923. He was employed by Barzen Elevator and Fred Forsberg and Sons, Inc. for 14 years.

On July 21, 1936 he was united in marriage to Marie Ann Geske at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Ernest entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II from March of 1944 to March of 1946 when he was discharged from Camp McCoy, WI. The couple then moved to Duluth where Ernest worked at the Winness Cabinet Shop. He started his own cabinet business in 1965 and retired in 1972. In 1985, Ernest and Marie returned to Thief River Falls and have resided here since.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion, VFW Post 2793, Golden K, Heritage Center, Happy Seniors, and the Trinity Golden Years group and choir.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Marie; two children, Ray (Kathy) Hogenson of Austin, TX and Marion (Fred) Dablow of Thief River Falls; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd (Gladys) Hogenson; one sister, Eldora Alby; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marion Hogenson and Anna Hogenson; two step-sisters, Hermina Kopp and Gladys Peterson Toole; and one half-brother, Milan C. Hogenson.
