
Grygla - Alvina Holthusen, 90, died on Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at her home near Fourtown.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Reverend Richard Knutson officiating. Joy Nordby was the organist and provided special music along with Marie Anderson. Casketbearers were Anthony Holthusen, Cole Holthusen, Aaron Holthusen, Blair Holthusen, Chris Zavoral and Davis Holthusen. Honorary casketbearers were those who had provided care for Alvina during her later years. Burial was in Rosebud Cemetery in Steenerson township of Beltrami county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Alvina Mathilda Magneson was born on September 23, 1908 in Werne near Clearbrook, the daughter of Halvor and Olga (Lundin) Magneson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended school in Wannaska.
Alvina was united in marriage to Herbert Holthusen on February 16, 1928 at the Lutheran parsonage in Thief River Falls. The couple lived in Grygla for a short time and then moved to Fourtown in the spring of 1930. In 1931, Herbert and Alvina moved to Duluth where they worked in a hotel for a short while before moving back to Thorhult in in 1932. In 1937, the couple purchased the Thorhult Store and in 1940 bought the Fourtown Store, operating it until they sold it in 1971.
Alvina is survived by one son, Wallace (Lila) of Grygla; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Anvinson of Eugene, OR; two brothers, Harry Magneson of Union, WA and Vernon (Beth) Magneson of Port Orford, OR; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband on April 1, 1997; one son, Arlan "Snooky"; her parents; and two grandsons, Paul and an infant boy. A00003B1999JN02
