Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 17) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Terry Olson officiating. Wanda Vigness will be the organist, and Joel Kezar will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Steve Holmstrom, Wayne Holmstrom, Craig Holmstrom, Howard Peterson, Marshall Ness and David Ness.

Visitation was held at Green Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16. Visitation will also be held today until the time of services.

Harvey Willis Holmstrom was born on December 29, 1919 in West Valley township of Marshall county near Strandquist, the son of Erick August and Agda Alvera (Edeen) Holmstrom. He was baptized and confirmed at Strandquist.

In 1934, Harvey moved near Holt where he worked with his parents on their home farm. He also worked in the potato fields on farms in the Red River Valley. He served during World War II in the United States Army Air Force from February 4, 1942 until his discharge on November 14, 1945. He achieved the rank of corporal, serving in the 3508th Army Air Force and overseas as a radar operator. He received six overseas bars, the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the Victory Medal.

Harvey married Helen Ridout in Madison, Wisc. in the winter following his discharge from the military. The couple lived in Minnesota and Utah where he was a mink farmer and raised hunting dogs. He returned to rural Marshall county from Utah and purchased a home in New Solum township.

Survivors include five children, Terry, Ann, Eric, Timothy and Nellie and several grandchildren. Harvey is also survived by three brothers, Floyd Holmstrom of Newfolden and Art (Elva) Holmstrom and Wallace Holmstrom, both of St. Paul; two sisters, Erma (Glendon) Hanson of Ft. Mojave, Ariz. and Dallas (Curtis) Marti of Minnetonka; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Grace Holmstrom; his children's mother; his parents; three brothers, Vernon, Ray and Loyal; one grandson; and one daughter-in-law. A00003B2000MY17
