Carrie Katherine Hoiland, 86

Thief River Falls - Carrie Katherine Hoiland, 86, died Thursday, February 13, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Arrangements were with Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 17 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lengby with Rev. Mark Wold officiating. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Columbia Township. Polk County.

Carrie Katherine Brustad was born on February 2, 1911 in Fosston, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Sveum) Brustad. She grew up and attended rural school in Columbia Township. Polk County. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Hoiland on September 22, 1934. After their marriage, they resided and farmed near Lengby. They moved in to Lengby in 1970 and from 1972 through 1974 Carrie worked at the Good Foods Store in Lengby. Lawrence died December 9, 1986. Carrie continued to lived in Lengby until 1989 when she entered the Fosston Municipal Nursing Home in Fosston. On October 7, 1996 she entered the Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lengby. She and Lawrence enjoyed spending time fishing together.

She is survived by sons Richard (Donna) of Crookston, and Michael (Roxi) of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Alex (Florence) Brustad of Erskine, and Morris (Mable) Brustad of South St. Paul; sisters Julie Hovet of Reynolds, ND, Annie (Wally) Nygaard of Buxton, ND, and Hazel Hioland of Rathdrum, ID; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Martha; and brothers Joseph and Larry.
