Thomas Hoffarth, 57

Grand Forks, ND - Thomas J. Hoffarth, 57, died Tuesday, December 1, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 4 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Military honors were accorded by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 of East Grand Forks. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Grand Forks. The Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel of Grand Forks, ND was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Joseph Hoffarth was born November 8, 1941 in Langdon, ND, the son of Otto J. and Rosina M. (Kroetsch) Hoffarth. He was raised in Langdon and graduated from St. Alphonses High School in 1958. Thomas attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, earning a degree in air handling systems.

He entered the U.S. Army on January 8, 1964 and served in Europe. He was separated on May 31, 1966 and returned to Grand Forks. On May 16, 1970 he married Shirley A. Goihl at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND. Thomas worked for Hastings Heating and Sheetmetal for 15 years and for 17 years at the J.R. Simplot Co. where he was currently employed.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Vicky (Mike) Jenson of Thief River Falls and Judy (Jeremy) Anderson of Grand Forks, ND; two grandchildren; his mother, Rosina; four sisters, Rosemary (Howard) Groven of Portland, ND, Sandra (Jack) Croce of Lake Forest, CA, Mary Ellen (Michael) Stephens of Elizabethtown, PA and Pat (Bruce) Burckhard of Devils Lake, ND; and six brothers, Jerome (Martha) of Awen, WI, Lloyd (Joan) of Lakota, ND, Gary (Bonnie) of Wildamar, CA, Francis (Marion) and Ronald (Kirsten), both of Langdon, ND, and Glen (Elaine) of Grand Forks, ND.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Luella.
