
Middle River - Eunice Hoff, 75, died Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 30 at Grace Evangelical Church in Strathcona with Pastor Bob Ludwig officiating. Pat Ludwig was the organist, and special music was provided by Jim Gjovik and Joyful Sound. Casketbearers were Brent Hoff, Dean Ornquist, Paul Gadde, Thomas Hoff, Timothy Hoff and Charles Hoff. Interment was in Holmes United Methodist Cemetery in Reynolds, ND. The Collins Funeral Home of Middle River was in charge of the arrangements.
Eunice Evangeline Nienas was born on March 28, 1923 near Thompson, ND, the daughter of Erwin and Amanda (Schoeder) Nienas. She was baptized and confirmed at Holmes Evangelical United Brethren Church near her home. She graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks, ND. Eunice attended teachers' training in LeMars, IA.
On June 6, 1944 she was united in marriage to Ernest George Hoff near Thompson, ND. The couple resided in Oslo for several years before moving to a farm near Thompson, ND. In 1961 they moved to East Grand Forks.
Eunice taught in Argyle, Oslo and Gardner, ND. After her husband died on December 28, 1964, she returned to school to earn her degree in licensed practical nursing. She worked as a school nurse at Mayville State College and then returned to school to update her teaching credentials.
From 1969 until 1985, Eunice taught at Middle River. Since August of 1998 she has resided at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Church of Strathcona and active in several senior citizens organizations.
Eunice is survived by three sons, Timothy (Kay) of Cummings, ND, Charles (Wendy) of Gentilly, and Thomas (Joy) of Crookston; one daughter, Carolyn (Delmar) Johnson of Middle River; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Norma (Lyle) Thorgramson of Portland, OR, Dawn (Fred) McNeeley of Vancouver, WA, and Joanne (James) Gay of Portland, OR; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one sister, Wanda.
