
Thief River Falls - Mavis Hillyer, 69, died Sunday, January 9, 2000 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, January 12) at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls Carmen Gustafson will be the organist. Vocal selections will include duets by Mathew and Amanda Bitzegaio, Mathew Bitzegaio and Bridgette Stock and a solo by Shirley Trickle. Casketbearers will be Mathew Bitzegaio, Matt Kraemer, Ryan Kraemer, Terry Lubitz, Rob Stock and Mark Swanson. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 11 from 3 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Mavis Genevieve (Knutson) Hillyer was born on October 25, 1930 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Knut and Constance Margaret (Klungness) Knutson. She was baptized in the Christian faith at her home and reaffirmed her faith through confirmation at Silver Creek Lutheran Church. She attended elementary school at the Sunnyside School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1948.
On December 4, 1949 she was united in marriage to Robert Hillyer at Silver Creek Lutheran Church where they were long-time members. They made their home in Excel township of Marshall county. In 1972 they moved to Mesa, AZ. Robert was afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and Mavis with crippling arthritis, and they lived with their daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bill Stock. In 1984 they all returned to Thief River Falls.
Mavis is survived by one daughter, Connie (Bill) Stock of Thief River Falls; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Burnell (Connie) Johnson of Gresham, OR.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Anthony Claud; her husband, Robert on March 9, 1985; and her parents. A00003B2000JA12
