Lillian Hillestad, 87

Fosston - Lillian Hillestad, 87, died Friday, October 13, 2000 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 16, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Burial was in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston with Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Service in charge of the arrangements.

Lillian Constance Haagenson was born on January 17, 1913 in King township, rural McIntosh, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Mjovig) Haagenson. She grew up in McIntosh and graduated from high school there in 1930. She later graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead and taught rural school in the area.

On September 25, 1937, Lillian was united in marriage to Marvin S. Hillestad in Bemidji. The couple lived and raised their family in Fosston.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Athenian Club, Quilters and the Republican Party.

Lillian enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and quilting.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce (Patty) Hillestad of Thief River Falls and Steve (Marcia) Hillestad of Wayzata; a daughter, Karen (Joe) Merseth of Frazee; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and four brothers, Melvin, Bert, Arnold and Sam.
