Lue Hetland, 86

Thief River Falls - Lue Hetland, 86, died Sunday, February 15, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 20 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls with Pastors Curtis Anderson and Red Lindquist officiating. Karen Sich will be the organist. Vocal music will be provided by Orville and Bobby Trontvet. Casketbearers will be Irving Larson, Michael Manke, Ken Murphy, Jerry Moyer, Lynn Brosseau, Arlen Booren, Jim Nelson, Richard Toomey, Jack Davidson and Gordon Thrane.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 19 at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and at the church for one hour prior to services on Friday.

Lue Gust Hetland was born on October 24, 1911 in Thief River Falls, the son of Abraham and Maria (Gaasland) Hetland. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lue attended Central Elementary and Lincoln High School, graduating in 1931. Following graduation he continued his education at technical schools. He was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years, retiring in 1974.

On May 22, 1937 Lue was united in marriage to Helen Myhrer at Newfolden by Helen's father, Reverend Thorvald Myhrer. While Lue worked on construction for Northwestern Bell, they couple lived in various locations, mostly in Minnesota. In 1940 the couple settled in Lue's family home in Thief River Falls.

He enjoyed his family, music and playing the violin. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, the Berean Group where he played in the band, and the Telephone Pioneers.

Lue is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Patricia Ann and Celeste Fae, both of Thief River Falls; three sisters, Esther Rollinger of Thief River Falls, Lillian VonSchneeweiss of Sun City, CA and Betty Peterson of Thief River Falls; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Trygve, Roy and Clifford; and three sisters, Helga Parker, Lucille Myhrer and Pearl in infancy.
