Hestekind, 85
Thief River Falls - George P. Hestekind, 85, died Thursday, February 3, 2000 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 6 at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. Ollie Urdahl and Rev. Philip Rokke officiating. Cathy Erickson was the organist. Soloists were Cathy Erickson and Craig Swenson. Casketbearers were Gary Tanner, Gaylord Magner, Clyde Swenson, Waldo Thompson, Randy Homme and Orlin Magner. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Fall was in charge of the arrangements.
George P. Hestekind was born on February 17, 1914 in Smiley township of Pennington county, the son of Andrew and Nellie (Hagen) Hestekind. He lived near St. Hilaire until he was 14 years old, and the family moved to New Solum township of Marshall county. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On April 2, 1943 George was united in marriage to Eveleth Skadsem. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls before moving to Hoople, ND and then Strandquist. They later moved to New Solum township where George farmed. He also worked for area potato farmers. In 1968 they moved to Thief River Falls where he was employed at Arctic Cat until his retirement in 1977. Eveleth died in 1976. George moved to Valley Home in 1991 and to the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in 1992.
He enjoyed deer hunting, dancing and especially spending time with family and friends.
George is survived by one daughter, Janet (Kenneth) Garthus of Holt; one son, Gerald (Janice) Hestekind of Newfolden; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one half sister, Gladys Homme of Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eveleth; one son, Arly; his parents; two brothers, Albert and Alfred; one sister, Bella Thompson; one half brother, Louie Pederson; and one half sister, Lila Sunsdahl.
