
Fosston - Allen Hemmingsen, 52, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at his home in Fosston after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 18 at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston was in charge of the arrangements.
Allen Larry Hemmingsen was born on January 29, 1946 in Thief River Falls, the son of Delmont and Irma (Anderson) Hemmingsen. He grew up in Fosston and graduated from high school with the class of 1964. He worked in concrete construction in Minneapolis until 1969 when he returned to Fosston and started his own construction business.
Allen was united in marriage to Linda Jean Schofield on May 24, 1969 in Monona, IA. After their marriage, Allen and Linda resided and raised their family in Fosston. In 1971 Allen's brother Dennis joined him in the construction business which became known as Hemmingsen Masonary Company. Allen owned and operated the business for 27 years.
Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, Allen was a life-long member of Kingo Lutheran Church.
He was a former member of the Kingo Lutheran stewardship committee, the Fosston Community Club and member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman, Local Union 12.
Allen's favorite hobby was restoring cars, and he also enjoyed laying tile, attending area sales, playing pool and watching football. He enjoyed people, especially children, and spending time with family and friends.
Allen is survived by his wife, Linda; one daughter, Barbara (Mark) Hagen of Fosston; two sons, Paul of Plymouth and Bradley of Fosston; twin granddaughters; his parents, Delmont Hemmingsen of Erskine and Irma Hemmingsen of Fosston; two brothers, Dennis (Jan) Hemmingsen of Fosston and Roger (Bonnie) Hemmingsen of Fosston; two sisters, Ardella (Jerry) McGee of Trimont and Sheryl (Tom) Vedbraaten of Crookston; one half-brother, Del Jr. of Erskine; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, an infant nephew, an infant niece and a brother-in-law.
