River Falls - Janette Helle, 99, died Saturday, December 23, 2000
at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, December 27) and until the time of services on Thursday.
Janette Olive Jacobsen was born on August 17, 1901 in Lankin, N.D., the daughter of Hans and Oline (Christiansen) Jacobson.
On October 31, 1923, she was united in marriage to John D. Helle at Oklee. The couple lived at Oklee and Hazel before moving to Thief River Falls in 1946. Janette worked at the Mint Cafe for a number of years and also at a Catholic home in Grand Forks, N.D.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed crocheting, needlework, playing bingo and cards and spending time with family and friends.
Janette is survived by two daughters, Laura Cariveau of Lynnwood, Calif. and Alice (Ernie) Thune of Thief River Falls; five sons, Daniel (Zoe) Helle, Norman Helle, Lester (Lou) Helle, Gerald (Imogene) Helle and Harvey Helle, all of the Thief River Falls area; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three half sisters, Olga Christianson and Anna "Tootsie" Peterson, both of Grand Forks, N.D., and June Morris of California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter, Jennifer Helle; two sisters, Clara Peterson and infant Betsy Jacobsen; two brothers, Tony and Johan "Melvin;" five half brothers, George, Henry, Stanley, Oliver and Frithjof Jacobsen; a son-in-law, Roger Cariveau; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Helle.
