Marie Hegland, 85

Oklee - Marie Hegland, 85, died Sunday, May 9, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, May 12) at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church near Oklee with Reverend Robert Paulson officiating. Grace Hammer will be the soloist and organist, and Murry Westberg will present a saxophone solo. Casketbearers will be Harold Skreland, Lowell Westberg, Clark Sorenson, Jeff Johnson, Eddie Larson and Irvin Flatgard. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Marie Skreland was born on November 18, 1913 near Oklee, the daughter of Osov and Annie (Heistad) Skreland. She was raised there and attended school in Oklee.

In July of 1933 she was united in marriage to Gilman Hegland in Oklee. The couple made their home three miles north of Oklee, farming and raising livestock. Gilman died in 1967, and Marie moved into Oklee in 1981.

She was a member of the Salem ELCW and enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, embroidery and flower gardening.

Marie is survived by one daughter, Berget (Carl) Ganje of Fargo, ND; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Elvind Skreland of Oklee; one sister, Christine Westberg of Warren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Karla and George Johnson and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilman; parents; one infant daughter; three brothers, Taaraal, Gunsten and Knute; and three sisters, infant Mary, Mary Engebretson and Torbjor Skreland. A00003B1999MY12
