
Thief River Falls - Lowell Hawkinson, 83, died Monday, September 14, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am. on Thursday, September 17 at Black River Lutheran Church in Polk Centre township of Pennington county. Special music will be provided by Don Wahlbeck. Casketbearers will be Curtis Swanson, Lyle Swanson, Donavon Erlandson, John Hirst and Melvin Melin. Honorary casketbearers were all of Lowell's relatives and friends. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, September 16) with a 4 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Lowell Hawkinson was born on December 14, 1914 in Bray township of Pennington county, the son of Harry and Ida (Anderson) Hawkinson. He was baptized and confirmed at Black River Church and attended school in St. Hilaire.
On December 31, 1948 he was united in marriage to Vernice Priebe in Thief River Falls. Lowell stayed and farmed the family farm until the mid-1960's when he went to work for Steiger Manufacturing. He later worked for Arctic Cat. Lowell and Vernice lived on the farm until 1988 when they moved to St. Hilaire. In 1992 the couple moved to Thief River Falls. Vernice died on March 18, 1993.
Lowell enjoyed the outdoors, playing cards, drawing, visiting family and friends, watching television and using his sense of humor to tell stories.
Survivors include one son, Howard of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Kathy Panek of Goodridge; one son-in-law, Steve Panek of Goodridge; one daughter-in-law, Candy Rude of Thief River Falls; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernice; parents; and one sister, Fern Barstad.
