
Eugene, OR - Milfred "Mel" O. Haughom, 78, died Saturday, September 5, 1998 of congestive heart failure.
Private services were held with the Musgrove Family Mortuary of Eugene, OR in charge of the arrangements.
Milfred O. Haughom was born on May 29, 1920 in Fargo, ND, the son of John and Josephine Haughom. He was a 1938 graduate of Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.
On February 8, 1940 he married Arline Prestebak in Thief River Falls.
Milfred served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, flying B-25s in northern Africa and Italy and serving in all the major campaigns of those regions.
For 43 years, he was an executive for J.C. Penney Co., Inc. He lived in Eugene, OR for several years. He then moved to Mesa, AZ where he lived for five years before returning to Eugene. An avid golfer, he had three holes-in-one. He was a member of a Lutheran church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of Eugene, OR and Paul of Portland, OR; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Esther Sandum of Langdon, ND.
A son, David, preceded him in death in 1980.
