
Thief
River Falls - Gladys Haugen, 75, died Monday, May 1, 2000 at the
CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire with Rev. George Davis officiating. Rev. Terri Cuppett will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Patric Hanson, Aric Hanson, Ryan Haugen, Robbi Peterson, Lee Lilja and Shawn Bugge. Interment will be in Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, May 3) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Gladys Eleanor Hoaas was born on April 20, 1925 in Mayfield township of Pennington county, the daughter of Martin and Emma (Warstad) Hoaas. She was baptized on May 24, 1925 at Clearwater Lutheran Church in Pennington county and confirmed on November 26, 1939 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, also in Pennington county. She attended a country school near Oklee and graduated from Oklee High School in 1943.
On March 25, 1945, Gladys was united in marriage to Raymond Haugen at Salem Lutheran Church in Red Lake county. The couple made their home near Oklee. They moved to California and lived there for two years before returning to Minnesota in 1952. Gladys and Raymond purchased a farm in Sanders township near St. Hilaire. Gladys' employers included Ben Franklin, Wagenstein Jewelers and Johnson Jewelers from which she retired. In 1984, Gladys and Ray moved to Skylite Apartments in Thief River Falls, and in 1986, they moved to Riverside Terrace. Gladys moved to the CNC Unit at Northwest Medical Center in January of 2000.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire.
Gladys had many interests, including painting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, books and watching old movies. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Thief River Falls; one son, Gary (Marilyn) Haugen of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Gwen (Lyle) Hanson and Jackie (Mike) Olson, both of St. Hilaire; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leonard (Lois) Hoass of Eureka, Calif. and Melvin (Jane) Hoass of Dent.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Andor, Walter and Lester Hoass; and two sisters, Muriel Ranum and Mildred Haugen. A00003B2000MY03
