Jay Haroldson, 90

Thief River Falls - Jay Haroldson, 90, died Monday, March 13, 2000 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Rev. Sandra Hollands officiating. Gloria Sistad was the organist and vocalists were Howard and Mary Ann Lunsetter. Casketbearers were Leon Johnson, Ken Wagner, Dallas Peterson, Merlyn Haroldson, Clair Haroldson and Don Osse. Interment was in Moose River Cemetery in Rollis township of Marshall county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Jay Orin Haroldson was born on March 29, 1909 at home in Moose River township, the son of Christ and Mary (Aase) Haroldson. He was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke. He attended school in Gatzke and also high school in Thief River Falls.

He was united in marriage to Mary Nelson at the Lutheran parsonage in Newfolden. The couple farmed in Moose River township for a short time before Jay went to work for the State of Minnesota, working at the Thief Lake Refuge for several years. When Game Warden Bill Carlson left, he took over the position. He later moved to Mille Lacs but returned to manage the Thief Lake Refuge.

Jay was member of United Lutheran Church in Gatzke and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

He and his wife enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.

Jay is survived by one brother, Myron (Ragna) Haroldson of Thief River Falls and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two sisters, Mildred Nelson and Lillian Bucklund. A00003B2000MR22
