Nora Hanson, 83

Trail - Nora Hanson, 83, died Sunday, July 23, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, rural Trail, with Rev. Steven Sparley officiating. Grace Hammer will be the organist and soloist. Casketbearers will be Richard Bjerklie, Randall Mostrom, David Arveson, David Rindahl, Lonny Burrack and Gene Arveson. Interment will be in Nazareth Cemetery in Hickory township of Pennington county.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, July 26) from 2 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Nora Evangeline Howard was born on May 16, 1917 in Highlanding township of Penning-ton county, the daughter of Ole and Sophia (Gunderson) Howard. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Highlanding township and Gary where she lived with her uncle and aunt, Lars and Anna Gunderson. Nora attended Goodridge High School, graduating in 1934. She also attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. She spent some time working in a Minneapolis restaurant and as a bookkeeper at the Gully Elevator in Gully. She also worked at other area businesses.

On October 16, 1940, Nora was united in marriage to Harry Hanson at Harry's home in Hickory township. The couple made their home and farmed in Hickory township of Pennington county where Nora has since resided. In 1984, Harry and Nora were selected as Pennington County's Farmer and Homemaker of the Year. Harry died on July 6, 1998.

Nora was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and the Nazareth Ladies Aid. She was very active in the community where she held various positions.

She enjoyed raising African violets as well as other flowers and trees, gardening, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nora is survived by one son, Howard (Linda) of Trail; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Bennie Howard of Butte, Mont.; five sister-in-laws; one brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Oliver, Albert and Clarence Howard; and four sisters-in-law.
