
Thief River Falls - Manuel H. Hanson, 89, Thief River Falls died Saturday, May 31, l997 at Northwest Medical Center.
Visitation will be held today, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Reverend Terri Skildum officiating. Grace Hammer will be the organist and Myrtle Erickson, the soloist. Casketbearers will be DuWayne Hanson, Harvey Hanson, Dennis Hanson, Lyle Hanson, Richard Hanson and Donald Nomeland. Honorary casketberarers will be Roger Hanson, Harland Lee Sr., Otto Hagen, Stanton Brekke, Alan Arne, Charles Rustvold, Jack Nomeland, all grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Following lunch at the funeral home, burial services will be held at Valle Cemetery near Grygla at 3:45 p.m. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home.
Manuel Hanson was born April 2, l908 at Amery, WI, the son of Hans and Hannah (Schock) Hanson. He moved with his family to Grygla as a young boy. He was baptized and confirmed at Northwood Church at Moose River.
He was united in marriage to Anna Arne on July 12, 1930 at Crookston. The couple lived and farmed at Grygla and later moved to the Hazel vicinity. He was a member of St. Pauli Church. Manuel and Anna moved to Thief River Falls in l960. He worked for a farmer near Plummer for a few years prior to his retirement.
Nicknamed "Tag" by his friend, H.P. Lee, he enjoyed his family, hunting, sports on television and visiting with his many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Anna of Thief River Falls; seven children, DuWayne "Buddy" (Ruth) of Backus, Harvey of Thief River Falls, Dennis of St. Hilaire, Margie Adamson of Goodridge, Roger (Shirley) of Thief River Falls, Lyle (Gwen) of St. Hilaire, and Richard of Thief River Falls; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Nomeland of Thief River Falls and Vivian (Earl) Gilthvedt of Roseau; two sister-in-laws, Edith of Mentor and Jennie Wilsey of Traverse City, MI; brother-in-law Harland Lee Sr. of Thief River Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Harry and Dale; four brothers, Harry, Johnny, Emil and George; four sisters, Mary (John) Rustvold, Anna Lee, Alice (Joe) Duchamp and Eleanor in infancy; one infant granddaughter; and one infant great-granddaughter.
